Everything from fibers to pattern design is available for study in Dallas. Dallas County Community College offers programs in apparel, pattern, and costume design, while the University of North Texas has programs in fibers, fashion design, and fashion merchandising. Texas Women’s University and Wade College also offer programs in fashion design and merchandising.
While students in many cities have to go to New York or Los Angeles to find internship or job opportunities, students in Dallas are fortunate to have a number of major industry corporations headquartered here, providing a wealth of opportunity. And, as one of the nation’s fashion hotspots, it’s hardly surprising that theTexas Workforce Commission has forecasted a 19% increase in opportunities for fashion merchandisers through 2012, and a 12% increase for fashion designers through 2012.
